CoolJanuary 29: Did you know that if you search for "jenny cards fucking" on Yahoo! that this site comes up #5? Neither did I until I checked my stats today. What the fuck was that person looking for? I'm not sure I want to know... The best part was clicking on cached and seeing the word, "fucking" highlighted so many times. Jenny has a potty mouth. read/add comments (1) London Shopping!January 27: Wow! Those Mason-Dixon babes Kay and Ann mention you once and like a million (okay...103) people stop in for a visit. Damn. Thanks guys, that was really cool! I feel like, famous and shit. Now back to our previously scheduled London report: The dollar sucks right now, but I still found a few deals in London. The Chatsford tea mugs that I love--I bought one at the Twinnings store two years ago and use it almost daily. This time Whittard of Chelsea had them 2 for £20. You can find them on the internet for around $28 EACH so I was pretty happy with that. One for me and one for Mom (shhh don't tell her, Mary). The other thing was YARN! Woo Hoo! Polly had very kindly emailed me all the January Sale prices at Liberty and then proceeded to snag me some of the Rowan Calmer I wanted at John Lewis at--get this--an even better price!!! Double Woo Hoo! I bought more Calmer when I got to Liberty because there were six lone balls of it in Laural. It's a nice soft green that will be knitted into Iris to wear with my grandmother's dress. The dress is almost the same cut as the blue floral one shown with the sweater in Rowan 35--my sister rescued it from grandma's closet after her funeral and it something we treasure together. The Calmer in Chiffon is destined to become Audrey. I'm a slow knitter though, so have patience.
The blue yarn in front is Jaeger Celeste in Tide. I thought maybe a cute scarf to go with my cute spring jacket. Ain't it purty?
After I bought my yarn I found my way to the cafe in Liberty and met Polly's Rowanette friends for an evening of tea and knitting. Polly was stuck at work, but her lovely friends took very good care of me! Dave had the digital camera with him so I was left with my ancient FILM-using-thing to take a photo of us. When I finally manage to get that roll developed--I'll scan it in. Those Rowanettes are lovely people, let me tell you. I had a blast and Dave's DNA scarf was finally begun. Ahhhh...vacation knitting. Too cool. After knitting Polly and Nic and I went out for dinner and then browsing at Borders and then it was back to the hotel for sleep. Dave rolled in about an hour after me and lordy, LORDY was that boy drunk. Apparently Ben and Dave and some guy named Murray had quite the evening--and an ENTIRE bottle of limoncello. Go y'all. Thanks a bunch to Polly and her friends--I had an absolutely delightful time knitting with you all. Give me a shout if you're ever in NYC!
Soon or later I will get around to it...January 24: I swear you will soon hear the tale of my epic meltdown in front of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. But first--IT SNOWED! I love snow. I especially love snow in Central Park before it gets all yucky and dirty (that's like what, a twenty minute window?). Those bright orange markers are where Christo's latest installation will be. The Gates. I hope it snows at least once while it's up--I think the orange of the fabric against the snow would be stunning. I can't wait to see it!
Back to Tales from London soon.
Procrastinator ExtraordinaireJanuary 20: Right now I'm sitting here listening to the VERY LOUD kid upstairs run around. My light fixtures are trembling. I need to re-write my angry neighbor letter and slip it under their door. Right now I'm wondering how I can capture for you all the horror of six days in London with no hot water. Vacation with no bathing. Those of you who know me in real life know that me without my daily bathroom ritual is just not right. It's right up there next to me without my ten hours of sleep. Just not right. I need to write an angry customer letter to gotoday.com and tell them to never book people into that hotel again. Never. Ever. Somehow I just don't have the energy. I feel like being a doormat today apparently. Little Child Upstairs, please run around on your parent's uncarpeted floors and make my light fixtures tremble, please? And hoteliers of the world, take note, I will go six days into my eight day holiday before I flip out on your ass because there is no hot water. Fear not, Jenny does not complain on six hours of sleep. If I manage to get ten hours tonight--you fuckers better watch out. The bitch is back in the States.
If you're lucky, I might even post some vacation photos in between angry letter writing. I said IF!
RemindersJanuary 4: Dooce has something important to say today. "The world reached out to us when we were struck by tragedy in 2001. I want to be one of the Americans who reaches out to them." This is exactly how I feel. Like many of my blogging friends who've written about the tsunami disaster, I'm overwhelmed. But this time I can offer help in a small way. Being a New Yorker I remember 2001 all too well and I also remember how it felt to know that the world wanted to help--and did. Please give to one of the relief organizations if you can. read/add comments (0) Here we go again.January 4: Happy New Year Y'all! I just now replied to an email from my old manager saying, "yeah, sure I could work again". I hope I'm not making a huge mistake here. I will shortly become the crazed lunatic I was three months ago. I'm just warning you. I didn't make any resolutions this year. I never keep them anyway. The only time I ever kept any sort of resolution was the year Mom requested that I give up temper tantrums for Lent. She said I enjoyed them way too much. I had a chart on the fridge and our priest knew about it too. I still had tramtrums, just not as many apparently. Humiliating. I don't think I've made any resolutions or given anything up since. Well, okay, one time I said I would try to swear less. That sure as hell didn't fucking work... Knitting news--check out the sidebar! I finished all the knitting on the baby sweater for Gus! I just have to sew it up. And by the way, I'm never knitting anything that complicated for a baby again. Never. Ever. Auntie Jenny is insane, Gus.
